About SFDP

The Scholar and Faculty Development Programme (SFDP) is planned to organize on the theme "Fundamentals of PLS-SEM by using SmartPLS" for the Ph.D. scholars and faculty members with a special focus on the built-environment domain. SmartPLS is a world-renowned software for data analysis using the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) method. It combines state of the art methods with an easy to use and intuitive graphical user interface. PLS-SEM allows analyzing complex inter-relationships between observed and latent variables. Compared to other methods, PLS-SEM offers much flexibility in terms of modeling and data requirements. It is observed that the acceptability of the PLS-SEM approach among the built environment scholars is very less. The programme will offer a comprehensive introduction into the foundations of PLS-SEM. Therefore, through this program, the participants will be able to learn and use PLS-SEM in their research and publish quality research in their respective domains.

Objectives of the SFDP

This four-day online programme introduces participants to the state-of-the-art of partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) using the SmartPLS 4 software. This programme has been designed to familiarize participants with the potentials of using the multivariate analysis method PLS-SEM in their research.

The objectives of this programme are to provide:

  • An in-depth methodological introduction into the PLS-SEM approach (the nature of causal modeling, analytical objectives, some statistics),
  • The evaluation of measurement results, and
  • The evaluation of the structural model results.

More specifically, participants will understand the following topics:

  • Model development and fundamentals of PLS-SEM and latent variable models.
  • Assessment and reporting of measurement and structural model results including Bootstrapping.
  • Prediction-oriented results analysis including PLSpredict.
  • Introduction to robustness of structural model (non-linear effects, endogeneity, and unobserved heterogeneity)

Intended beneficiaries of the SFDP

This course has been designed for faculty members and PhD students who are interested in learning how to use the PLS-SEM method in their own research applications. Basic knowledge of multivariate statistics and SEM techniques is helpful, but not necessary.

Key Features of the SFDP

  1. SFDP will be organized with the support of SmartPLS GmbH, Germany.
  2. Participants will get hands-on experience of working on SmartPLS 4 software along with a free two months professional license key worth 48 Euros.
  3. The programme is intended for scholars of general management and construction, real-estate, infrastructure and project (CRIP) management.
  4. The programme will help the participants to develop competencies in using the PLS-SEM method in their own research applications.
  5. E certificates of participation will be provided to all the registered participants.
  6. PLS-SEM clinic will be organized for 1 hour on September 03, 2022 to resolve the queries related to the topics covered in the programme.
