About Workshop

The aim of this workshop is to provide requisite skillsets and hands on practice to the participants about the requirements and structure of a good case study and a teaching note. The workshop will provide a platform to the participants to interact with seasoned case writers and develop their own case. This workshop is mainly oriented towards developing a case based on secondary sources & data and hence, participants will be able to draft their case and teaching note during the two days of the workshop.

The participants will be given two months’ time to work on their draft cases to make the manuscript publication-ready. Also, the developed cases will get an opportunity to be reviewed by the workshop empanelled reviewers within the stated time frame. This review opportunity will provide quality feedback to the participants which would help them in saving the publication time effectively. The developed cases from the workshop will be eligible for submission for review and publication to the SAGE Business Cases. Thus, the workshop not only provides opportunity to learn requisite skills to develop a quality case study but also offers hands on practice, feedbacks and finally publication opportunity to the participants.

The unique features of this workshop are:

  1. Experts from SBC team, NICMAR and ISB Hyderabad will be the resource persons for the workshop.
  2. A session on the topic “What Editors Look for in a Teaching Case?” will be delivered by editor of SAGE Business Cases.
  3. Post the workshop, participants will get 2 months’ time to develop the case and teaching note of publishable quality.
  4. These developed cases and teaching notes will get one review opportunity by the workshop empanelled reviewers.
  5. Subsequently, participants can submit their developed cases and teaching notes to SAGE Business Cases team for their standard review and publication process.
  6. The accepted cases by the SAGE Business Cases will receive an honorarium as per the policy of SAGE Business Cases. This honorarium will be paid by the SAGE Business Cases directly to the case authors.
Objective of the workshop

The primary objective of the workshop is to promote and create awareness about case writing approach among the teaching fraternity and practitioners of general management and construction, real estate, infrastructure and project (CRIP) management. The workshop intends to:

  • Provide hands on experience on how to develop a case based on secondary data from scratch.
  • Help recognize potential case writing scenarios/opportunities.
  • Provide insights on how to structure a case body in alignment with international standards.
  • Provide insights on how to develop a teaching note, augmenting the case body.
  • Help integrating the case and the teaching note for effective delivery.
  • Help recognize critical dimensions of writing a publication worthy case.

The workshop is intended for:

  • Faculty members in academic institutions who want to adopt case-based teaching as a pedagogical tool in their teaching curriculum.
  • Researchers and scholars interested in writing and publishing cases and teaching notes in reputed publications and case repositories.
  • Industry practitioners who would like to explore case-based training to enhance decision-making capabilities of their organization’s executives.

 

Expected outcome of the workshop

Post attending the workshop, participants are expected to:

  • Independently identify potential case writing opportunities in their areas of specialization.
  • Collect data for their cases from relevant and reliable sources.
  • Develop and structure a case for dissemination in the classroom environment.
  • Develop and structure a case for training their target recipients (Corporate/Industry practitioners).
  • Prepare a well-structured teaching note that complements the case for effective delivery of the learning objectives.

  • It is completely based on secondary data fetched from reliable and authentic sources.
  • The workshop will allow hands on development of case and teaching note under the expert supervision of a dedicated resource person on both the days.
  • The workshop will allow the participants to interact with editor of SAGE Business Cases to clarify doubts and other queries regarding requirements of a quality case and teaching note.
  • The workshop will also provide an extended window of Two (2) months to the participants to develop their case and an exclusive review opportunity through NICMAR empanelled reviewers before submission to SAGE Business Cases for their standard publication process.
 

Mode of Delivery

The workshop is designed to be delivered in HYBRID mode considering the prevalent COVID19 scenario. Participants can attain the workshop in either offline or online mode as per their convenience and applicable government guidelines at the time of conducting the workshop.

The workshop committee will make teams of 4 members from the pool of participants according to their declared area interest. The participants will be given the option to work in groups or independently as per their preferences. Prior intimation will be given to participants before start of the workshop.
